ABOUT 500 people protested at Leinster House yesterday against cutbacks and ward closures at Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan.

Chairman of the “Save Navan Hospital” committee Cllr Peadar Tobín said the Government had “shredded the hospital services in the northeast . . . We are pleading with the Government to return the services to Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan and return a fully functional hospital there,” he said.

“This is a community based protest . . . against the cutbacks and closures in Navan hospital,” said Mayor of Navan Phil Brennan. “We are not making a protest to the old Government, this is for the new government . . . the people of Navan . . . are not going to stand by while they close Navan hospital.”
