Belgrade - The new Serbian President, Mr Milan Milutinovic, was sworn in yesterday as his nationalist opponents walked out of the Serbian parliament in protest against alleged election fraud.

Mr Milutinovic was elected on December 21st after Mr Slobodan Milosevic, banned by the constitution from running for the Serbian presidency for a third time but still the real power in the country, took over the Yugoslav federal presidency. Previously foreign minister, Mr Milutinovic was handpicked by Mr Milosevic as a loyal ally who would do his bidding in office, but his victory was marred by vote-rigging allegations.
