Police were pelted with stones, bottles and other missiles as they arrested two men following a robbery.

A mob attacked the officers in the Drumbeg area of Lurgan, Co Armagh, after they came across two men aged 17 and 23 with stolen property and carrying imitation handguns.

Earlier two men in balaclavas entered a shop in Taghnevan Walk at around 8pm wielding handguns and forced staff to hand over cash and cigarettes before running off.

No officer was injured during the arrests.

Police appealed for witnesses to come forward and in particular urged four customers who were in shop at the time of the robbery to contact them.

They also called on a motorist who stopped with police on the Tandragee Road around 8.15pm to help.

Both men are being questioned by police.
