The Police Service of Northern Ireland has launched a murder inquiry today after the victim of a Co Antrim attack died in hospital.
The 49-year-old man was found lying in an alleyway in Carrickfergus at around 10 pm last night.
He received emergency treatment for serious head injuries but doctors today lost their battle to save him.
Detectives in Carrickfergus have urged anyone who saw the attack to contact them.

They are especially keen to hear from two young men who may have witnessed the assault and alerted a resident to where the victim was found between Cherry Walk and Woodburn Avenue.
