Two people were being questioned by police in Northern Ireland today after being arrested in possession of a large quantity of bank notes possibly linked to a £26.5 million pound bank haul last month.

Police would not comment on whether the arrests were linked to the December 20th raid on the headquarters of Northern Bank in central Belfast, which has been blamed on the Irish Republican Army.

A security source said it was one line of inquiry pursued by detectives but a definite link had not been established.

"Two people have been arrested in the Craigavon area (southwest of Belfast) in possession of a large amount of Northern Bank 100 pound notes," said a police spokeswoman.
