Detectives in Co Tyrone were today investigating the cause of a house fire in which a man died.
The blaze at Tulnacross Road in Cookstown was reported to police shortly after 9 pm yesterday. Fire crews discovered one man dead inside the house.
A second man was rescued and taken to hospital and has since been released.
The Fire Service said a working smoke alarm may have prevented the loss of life. It is believed the blaze may have started accidentally.
Meanwhile, firefighters rescued a 25-year-old woman from a blaze at a first floor flat in Bangor, Co Down.
The fire at Balloo Walk was discovered at around 9.30pm yesterday.
Fire officers said the woman had a lucky escape as the fire was so severe it had blocked an exit for anyone on the first floor. The woman was taken to hospital suffering from shock.
