Police in Northern Ireland are investigating an armed robbery which occurred in a family home in Newry in the early hours of this morning.

Three masked men entered the house at approximately 2.30am.

One raider carried a knife, the second was armed with a handgun and the third had a long-handled hatchet.

They threatened the male householder and forced him to hand over a sum of money.

Descriptions of the three men, all of whom are believed to have Southern accents have been released by police. The first man is described as approximately 6 feet tall, of a slim build and was wearing a check shirt and a black ski mask.

The second man was close to 6 feet tall, of a stocky build and was wearing a grey zipped jacket and was possibly wearing jeans.

The third man is described as short, of a small build and was wearing a mask, a tracksuit and trainers.

Detectives in Newry are investigating the incident and have asked anyone with any information to contact them.
