The Police Service of Northern Ireland a possible racist motive for an assault in which a non-national was struck in the face and attacked by a dog during an assault at his home in south Belfast.

The victim was taken to the City Hospital in Belfast for treatment for injuries to his face and arm. The assault took place at 6.30 yesterday evening.

Sinn Féin Assemblyman Alex Maskey said it was probably a racist attack.

"These types of vicious racist attacks have no place in our society and we need to challenge the attitudes that lead to people being targeted in this way," he said.
