The Police service of Northern Ireland has started an investigation into an apparent major robbery at the Boots store in Belfast city centre.
Staff have been sent home and the store closed for the day as detectives investigate what appears to be a mysterious robbery. Initial reports suggest the sum involved could be up to £200,000 sterling.
It was shortly before 11am that police moved into the Boots store which straddles Donegall Place and Fountain Street in Belfast city centre.
After brief investigations the staff were told to take the rest of the day off without any explanation.
People at the scene say the PSNI have removed bags of evidence form the shop for further investigation.
Customers were bemused as to what was happening as they tried to get into Boots only to find out that the doors were locked.
The PSNI would only say police are investigating the removal of a sum of money from a store in Donegall Place.
