Police in Northern Ireland were today investigating the attempted murder of a man in a paramilitary-style shooting in Co Antrim.

The 23-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds to his legs and arm in the hallway of a flat in Newtownabbey at 1.30am.

A PSNI spokesperson said the man had been viciously beaten and left to die.

He was taken to hospital, where his condition was said to be serious but stable.

Police have appealed for anyone who saw suspicious activity around the flat in Hollybank Drive, Monkstown between midnight and 1.30am to contact them.

Meanwhile police in Belfast are investigating a double shooting incident in the city in which two men were injured.

Both victims sustained gunshot wounds to the legs on Agnes Street in the Shankill area of the city shortly after 8.30pm. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
