PSNI makes appeal over east Belfast murder

Police in the North have appealed for information about the murder of Brian Stewart (34) in East Belfast on Tuesday morning.

Police in the North have appealed for information about the murder of Brian Stewart (34) in East Belfast on Tuesday morning.

Mr Stewart was ambushed as he sat in his car at Alanbrooke Road in the Lisnasharagh area of the city at around 8 a.m.

It is believed the victim was linked to the Loyalist Volunteer Force, which has been involved in a series of violent clashes with the Ulster Volunteer Force.

A silver car later found burning in a nearby alley is believed to have been linked to the shooting. There were no arrests.

Last night the PSNI said they wanted to speak to anybody who was at the bus stop near the Plum Centre on Montgomery Road between 7.30 a.m. and 8 a.m. last Tuesday.

They also want to speak to the occupants of a yellow and white delivery van which was in the area at the time of the killing.
