POLICE ARE still questioning three men arrested in connection with the murder of a 43-year-old loyalist on Belfast’s Shankill Road.
The PSNI is following a definite line of inquiry into the murder of Bobby Moffett, who was shot several times in the head just before lunchtime on Friday.
A fourth man arrested for questioning was released unconditionally at the weekend.
Two men wearing high visibility jackets were seen to carry out the attack by dozens of horrified witnesses thronging the busy shopping area. The victim, understood to have links with the UVF, was fatally injured at the scene and died in hospital a short time later.
Progressive Unionist leader Dawn Purvis warned yesterday that any retention of illegal weapons by loyalists could have consequences.
The East Belfast Assembly member said: “The UVF in their decommissioning statement last year had made clear that they had destroyed everything that was under their control.
“If individuals have held on to weapons, then they know the consequences of that because the decommissioning legislation fell in February and anyone caught with any weapons is liable to the full force of the law,” she warned.
Detectives investigating the case stated within hours of the murder that they did not believe the killing was sectarian.
