Four men are being questioned in the North about the notorious murder of a nationalist councillor more than 30 years ago.

Four men are being questioned in the North about the notorious murder of a nationalist councillor more than 30 years ago.

Mr Patrick Kelly (33) disappeared after locking his pub in Trillick, Co Tyrone, on July 24th, 1974. His body was discovered three weeks later some 10 miles away in Lough Eyes near Lisbellaw, Co Fermanagh.

He had been shot a number of times and his body was weighed down by blocks. His family suspected security force involvement.

The men were detained yesterday by PSNI officers investigating Mr Kelly's murder. He was an Independend Nationalist member of Omagh District Council at the time of his death.

Local people claimed members of the then Ulster Defence Regiment were involved in the killing and at least one ex-soldier was questioned.  It is not known if he is among  the men detained yesterday and taken for questioning by detectives at Antrim.
