Police in east Belfast are investigating the armed robbery of a cash-in-transit van at a filling station this morning.

Police in east Belfast are investigating the armed robbery of a cash-in-transit van at a filling station this morning.

As the van made a delivery to the filling station on the Knock dual carriageway an armed robber entered the shop and stole a container with “a substantial sum of money”.

The man then hijacked a red-coloured ford fiesta from a customer before making off in the direction of Castlerea Road.

One round was discharged during the incident however no one was injured.

The man is described as being 1.83m (6 feet) in height, of slim build with black hair and eyebrows. He was wearing a dark blue cap with a black scarf and a green parka-style knee length jacket.

Anyone who notices the whereabouts of the red fiesta is asked to contact police immediately and not to approach vehicle or its occupant.
