The search for a couple who tried to abduct a five-week-old baby boy from her mother has been extended across Northern Ireland.

Police say the Cookstown family subjected to the ordeal yesterday have been left badly shaken and have appealed for information.

The woman entered Tracy Eccles's Co Tyrone house at Westland Road South saying she was a health visitor come to check on baby Ryan, but left when challenged. She was driven away by a younger man.

Police want to track a silver Volkswagen Golf, driven by the man. The woman is described as being aged between 35 and 40; about five feet, two inches in height; of heavy build, with prominent teeth and may have been wearing a black wig.

The child's mother became suspicious when the woman attempted to take the child out to the car with her.

The PSNI are urging car hire companies to check their records in case the Golf had been rented.
