The importance of the public understanding of science will be emphasised in a free public lecture planned tomorrow at University College Dublin, Belfield. The talk, "Scientific Literacy and the Citizen of the Knowledge Society", will be given by Prof Donald Fitzmaurice of UCD. It is the annual National University of Ireland Convocation lecture.
Prof Fitzmaurice will highlight the consequences of living in today's society with no knowledge of science, which, he will say, puts its citizens at a frightening disadvantage. The lecture is at 8 p.m. tomorrow at Theatre R, John Henry Newman Building, Belfield. A reception for all graduates and alumni of the NUI universities will follow.
