All party leaders in the Dail are urging the public to observe a two-minute silence for peace throughout Ireland at 11 a.m. today. The silence has been organised by STOP '96 in remembrance of those who died in conflict, in support of the peace process and "in total defiance of all who use violence or who threaten its use".

It will be observed in the Dail at 11 a.m. when all members are requested to be present in the Chamber.

The following groups have also given their full support to the initiative: ICTU, IBEC, the IFA, the main church organisations, National Parents' Councils, Disabilities Federation of Ireland, the National Women's Council of Ireland, the Lord Mayors of Dublin, Cork and Belfast, the US ambassador to Ireland, Sinn Fein and various student and community groups.
