Racing:Racing at Punchestown this afternoon has been given the tentative go-ahead after stewards held a final inspection at 11am this morning.

Following a consultation with trainers and jockeys, officials elected to proceed - although strong winds have arrived as expected at the track.

They had twice held earlier inspections before making their final decision, and while conditions are currently safe for racing, there is a suggestion that they may deteriorate as the day goes on.

Explaining the situation, Cliff Noone of the Turf Club said: "They had a delegation of stewards, jockeys and trainers and decided to that they would go ahead.

"But whether they'll get through the card I'm not sure. It has rained and that seems to have stopped now but it's very windy.

"There wouldn't be a great concern unless it got much worse but they might review it after each race I would imagine."

The first race is due off at 12.40.
