Racing: After surviving the threat of waterlogging, tomorrow's race meeting at Punchestown is now in doubt due to frost.
This morning officials gave the meeting the all-clear after abandoning the scheduled races over fences to stage an all-hurdle and bumper card.
But due to a forecast of heavy overnight frost, it will now be necessary to check conditions at 8.00am tomorrow before racing can receive the go-ahead.
Heavy rain had initially put the weekend fixture in jeopardy but course officials found a viable solution after holding a morning inspection.
As it stands, racing is now restricted to the inside hurdle track, with the INH Stallion Owners EBF Maiden Hurdle divided.
The action still begins at 1.05pm but the six-race meeting will now finish 30 minutes earlier than scheduled at 3.35pm.
Sunday's card at Leopardstown, featuring the valuable Pierse Hurdle, will need to pass a 7.30am inspection on the morning of the meeting.
A recent deluge of rain in Ireland has left conditions very testing, with the ground currently heavy but raceable.
As well as the Pierse Hurdle, Leopardstown are due to stage the
Grade Two Paddy Fitzpatrick Memorial Novice Chase.
This afternoon's race meeting at Kelso goes-ahead following a
successful 7.30am inspection.
Although the overnight temperature dipped to around minus-two degrees, clerk of the course Anthea Morshead delivered a positive bulletin after assessing conditions.
She said: "It's icy but it did not really get into the ground so that was obviously good news. It's going to be very testing ground but we are racing."
The going is currently heavy, with racing set to commence at 12.40pm.
Sunday's meeting at Carlisle has been abandoned due to a waterlogged track.
