Four students waiting for a school bus at Loughglynn, Co Roscommon, were left on the roadside yesterday morning. The second-level students, from Castlerea Community School, were told there was no room for them on the bus.
The school bus service between the two locations is being provided by a private contractor, hired by the Department of Education, and can only accommodate 21 pupils despite the fact that 25 pupils have valid tickets for the journey. It's six miles from Loughglynn to Castlerea.
The Department of Education said it had called for an urgent report on the situation from Bus Eireann.
