The Department of Education has clarified its announcement of the number of pupils who received A grades in the Junior Certificate, the results of which were announced on Wednesday.
As reported in this newspaper yesterday, the Department initially stated that just one pupil had received 11 A grades, but it was unable to say who that pupil was, whether it was a boy or girl, or where the pupil was from.
The Irish Times has since discovered that the pupil the Department was referring to was Doirdeann Ni Mhongain, of Gleanntan, Co Cork, attending Scoil an Phiarsaigh in Glanmire, who achieved 11 As in higher level papers.
Two other students, Breffni Curran and Niamh Hallissey of Ardscoil na nDeise, Waterford, were also reported to have got 11 As.eise in Waterford, because two students in their school got 11 As.
