Putting your foot in it

Here's another sort of On The Town story

Here's another sort of On The Town story. There we were, on a Wednesday night, happily slurping delicious miso soup at Juice on Dublin's Georges Street and eating wholesomely - vegetarian bake, wilted greens, all delicious. We occupied the table in the window and were espied by good friends on their way home from the Chick Corea concert at the Olympia. So we decided to adjourn next door to the pub, The George and as it was 11.45 p.m. we were sent around to the side door where you pay £5 a head for admission. Let's do it, we decided, but wait: one of us was wearing trainers. Black trainers! "Ah no, you can't come in. We have a strict no-sportswear policy." And there was no talking to him. Imagine not being able to pay your way into a pub in Dublin because you're wearing the wrong shoes.
