Students receiving their Leaving Certificate results next week will be able to query their grades by e-mail, the Minister for Education announced yesterday.
From Wednesday, students unhappy with their results can lodge an appeal and pay an application fee through a Department of Education website.
The Minister promised further initiatives to improve the "quality of service" to students.
Last year, students were for the first time able to obtain Leaving Certificate results over the Internet.
According to the Department of Education, 14,000 holidaying or working abroad accessed their grades electronically.
Mr Dempsey said: "It is an important customer service initiative to facilitate students who, for whatever reason, are unable or do not wish to make it to school for their exam results.
The service will operate from midday on Wednesday August 14th. The website address is www.examinations.ie
