Afghanistan’s ousted president Mr Burhanuddin Rabbani arrived in the Afghan capital, Kabul this morning, and vowed there would be a broad-based government in Afghanistan as soon as possible.
Mr Rabbani was returning for the first time since he was thrown out when triumphant Taliban milita swept into the city five years ago.
Mr Rabbani drove into Kabul from the stronghold of his Northern Alliance base in the Panjsher valley to the north of the capital.
The deposed president, who still holds Afghanistan's United Nations seat, immediately went into meetings in the city centre.
