A consultant radiologist who claimed he suffered physical and psychological injuries and had three nervous breakdowns because of his huge workload and insufficient back up resources has settled his High Court action for damages.

Dr Joseph Hogan (53), of Sandhill Lodge, Lahinch, Co Clare, who has been attached to Ennis General Hospital since September 1985, sued the Mid Western Health board (MWHB) for damages for alleged negligence and breach of contract. The defence denied the claim.

When the hearing opened on November 5th last, Mr Justice Peart was told that between June 2001 and October 2001, Dr Hogan had been on sick leave with full pay. Afterwards, until March last, he had been on sick leave with half pay and since then had been unpaid.
