Tennis:Andy Murray's US Open bid was held up by rain this morning as the start of play at Flushing Meadows was delayed.
The world number four was due to take to the court first up at 11am (4pm Irish time) for his fourth-round clash against American Donald Young but the predictions of weather forecasters proved correct.
Rain began to fall just after Roger Federer completed his 6-1 6-2 6-0 victory over Juan Monaco at 1.13am and today’s schedule is expected to be heavily disrupted, with the best possibility of play in the early afternoon.
The forecast for the rest of the week is also for showers, giving tournament organisers a major headache. The men’s final has been played on the third Monday for the past three years because of inclement weather.
