Rain has prevented play on the sixth day of the Wimbledon championships from getting underway as scheduled.

Rain has prevented play on the sixth day of the Wimbledon championships from getting underway as scheduled.

There have been several disruptions because of wet weather in the first round of the championships, including a complete washout on Wednesday, and unless there is significant play later today organisers may consider a third "People's Sunday".

The middle Sunday of the tournament is usually a rest day, but in 1991 and 1997 play was scheduled and tickets distributed on a first-come-first-served basis.

Tournament officials expect play to start at 1 p.m.
