Rally driver killed in Waterford

A man has died while taking part in a rally in Waterford today.

Paul Mulcahy from Dungarvan, Co Waterford, suffered injuries during a crash on stage four of the Carrick on Suir Stages Rally.

Mr Mulcahy, who was in his 30s, was brought to Waterford Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The co-driver, a man in his 20s, was also brought to hospital, but gardai said it was a precautionary measure.

Carrick-on-Suir Motor Club cancelled the remainder of the event as a mark of respect.

In a statement, Motorsport Ireland and Carrick-on-Suir Motor Club extended their sympathy to Mr Mulcahy’s family and friends.
