A rally in Cavan in support of the Quinn Group planned for tomorrow has been postponed as a mark of respect for a man who died at a former Quinn-owned cement plant in Fermanagh last week.

Fermanagh Gaelic footballer Brian Óg Maguire (24) of Lisnaskea was killed in an industrial accident at the plant in Derrylin on Thursday. Mr Maguire had played in the Ulster senior football championship this year and captained the Lisnaskea Emmetts side that won the All-Ireland Intermediate Club Championship in 2011.

Meanwhile, organisers of the Ballyconnell rally have rejected media reports that a bucket collection in aid of the Quinn family was proposed for the rally.

“The rally is part of our ongoing campaign to establish why Seán Quinn jnr has been taken hostage at the request of Anglo Irish Bank when the legitimacy of an alleged debt of €3.2 billion has still not been ruled upon,” said a spokesperson for Concerned Irish Citizens, a group campaigning on behalf of the family. A previous rally supporting the Quinns was held in Ballyconnell in July.
