Celtic reclaimed top spot in the SPL - on goal difference - from arch-rivals Rangers tonight after scoring three times in 10 minutes in a convincing win at bottom club Motherwell.

The Old Firm both have 88 points but Celtic, the defending champions and UEFA Cup finalists, are one goal better off with three matches to play.

Two goals each from midfielders Stilian Petrov and Paul Lambert overwhelmed the home side, whose chances of a win disappeared when Derek Adams was sent off for throwing a late elbow at Alan Thompson on 30 minutes.

Celtic took the lead after 33 minutes when Petrov hammered home and the Bulgarian international struck a classy second after 56 minutes.

Motherwell's youngsters looked well-beaten at that stage, but Martin O'Neill's side showed no mercy and ensured they knocked Rangers off the top as Lambert hit two more after 61 and 65 minutes.
