Longford Town 4 Derry City 0
Second from bottom Longford Town again proved a thorn in Derry City's side at Flancare Park this evening, compiling visiting manager Kevin Mahon's misery.
The Candystripes were on the wrong end of a League Cup smash and grab raid at the hands of Longford last week with the midlanders qualifying for a first ever final in the competition.
And any hopes the Candystripes had of avenging that semi-final defeat were dispelled before half-time with the visitors trailing 2-0 and looking dead and buried.
Alan Kirby sent Philip Keogh away in the 23rd minute for his debut strike for the club before Brian McGovern notched his first and Longford's second from a corner 14 minutes later.
With the visitors defence at sixes and sevens, Longford extended their lead four minutes into the second period when Barry Ferguson converted from the spot to put the home side in the comfort zone.
And things went from bad to worse for Derry on 65 minutes when Barrett struck Longford's fourth.
The win lifts Longford above Derry and out of the relegation zone.
