Dick Advocaat has revealed he would be the manager of Holland today if Rangers chairman David Murray had not stood in his way.
The Dutchman, who continues as director of football at the Glasgow club, declared he was "sad" not to be able to succeed Louis van Gaal.
Advocaat was the first choice of the KNVB - the Dutch Football Association - and the job was offered to him.
In the end he told them he was staying at Rangers to continue with his new role after handing over team affairs to Alex McLeish last month
Yet the former PSV Eindhoven coach has revealed that he would have left Scotland but for the intervention of Murray.
"I find it very sad," he told Dutch magazine Sportweek.
"It would have been a great challenge, but Rangers wouldn't let me go."
