Rangers have won the Scottish Premier League title despite a thumping four nil win for bitter rivals Celtic against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

The race went right down to the wire, but in the end, Rangers' six goals against Dunfermline in Ibrox Park were enough to seal the title with a goal difference of one.

Michael Mols opened the scoring for Rangers before Dunfermline flouted the script and equalised through Jason Dair.

Jubilation from Celtic fans and Dunfermline fans was short lived however as Claudio Caniggia restored Rangers' lead.

Goals followed from Shota Averladze (2), Steve Thompson and Ronald de Boer to negate Celtic's heroic performance in Rugby Park.

Martin O'Neill's men scored four through Chris Sutton (2), Alan Thompson (pen) and Stilian Petrov and surely could not have imagined at the start of the day that such a result would not be enough.
