A MAN accused of falsely imprisoning, raping, sexually assaulting and threatening to kill an escort has said he “only slapped her lightly” across the head after she had “locked down her jaws” around his left thumb.
Under cross-examination, the 40-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told Patrick Marrinan SC, prosecuting, that “it was a self-defence reaction” as the woman would not let go of his thumb. It was day six of the trial.
The Dublin man has pleaded not guilty to false imprisonment, oral rape, rape, sexual assault with a mobile phone, sexual assault with the threat of violence and threats to kill the woman on December 9th, 2009, at a Dublin address.
He said when the woman wielded a steak knife at him, he was “terrified”. He agreed that he had texted her a false address as he wanted to remain anonymous.
“I had sent her the general location of my apartment,” he said.
He disagreed it was “irrational behaviour” to bring the woman on a long route throughout the apartment block to get to his apartment and denied he had taped over the number outside his apartment door. The jury will recommence deliberations today.
