ACCRA - Ghana's populist president, Mr Jerry Rawlings, edged ahead in his bid for a final term yesterday, but Mr John Kufuor of the rejuvenated opposition was snapping at his heels and still able to spring a surprise or force a run-off.
Provisional results from Saturday's elections showed that with 25 constituencies declared in the race for the presidency, Rawlings had 378,773 votes to Kufuor's 369,530.
