Four men and a woman arrested in Co Cavan as part of a Garda investigation into the activities of the republican splinter group known as the Continuity IRA were released last night.

Two other men, arrested in Dundalk and at another location in Co Louth, in connection with investigations into the republican group known as the "Real IRA", were still being held.

The five who were arrested in Cavan are all from Fermanagh. The Continuity IRA has grown in strength in Co Fermanagh and was responsible for a rocket attack on an RUC barracks in Roslea on April 12th. The rocket missed its target and failed to explode. The same group is thought to be responsible for a bomb attack on Stewartstown RUC barracks in Co Tyrone on July 9th. That explosion caused extensive damage to houses in the village.

The man arrested in Co Louth yesterday had been arrested previously as part of Garda inquiries into the activities of the "Real IRA" in the south Armagh-north Louth area.
