Racing: Dual 2000 Guineas winner Cockney Rebel has been retired after suffering a training setback. Plans to run the colt in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes later this month have been scrapped.

He had been working towards the Ascot showpiece after recovering from a fractured pelvis sustained in the St James's Palace Stakes at the Royal meeting.

But trainer Geoff Huffer revealed: "He was cantering this morning and a piece of paper flew across the canter at the end and his hind leg hit his near-fore on the tendon.

"He pulled up sound and went back to the yard.

"There was a slight bump there and I called in the vet to have a look. He scanned it and there is a slight injury there that would take three months or so to heal. I called his owner Phil Cunningham and I have just been over to see him. We have decided to retire him."
