Bogota - A team of 50 rebels of the left-wing National Liberation Army (ELN) burst into a church in a wealthy neighbourhood of Cali during Mass yesterday and abducted as many as 40 people, police and witnesses said.
The rebels forced their captives aboard trucks and sped away from the exclusive El Jardin neighbourhood home to some of the city's wealthiest residents. Two guerrillas and one bodyguard were killed in a shoot-out.
