Kigali - Congolese rebels said yesterday they had repulsed an attack by forces loyal to the President, Mr Laurent Kabila, on the eastern town of Bukavu on the border with Rwanda.
Congolese Mai Mai warriors and Rwandan Interahamwe Hutu militia attacked parts of the rebel-held town and its nearby airport on Thursday morning, rebel commanders said. Other sources in Bukavu said Rwandan government troops and tanks crossed the border to help rebels repel the attack.
