Cork 1-13 Tyrone 0-11:Conor Counihan's 14-man side sent defending champions Tyrone hurtling out of the All-Ireland as they claimed a spot in next month's decider with an outstanding display at Croke Park today.
Rocked by the sending off of Alan O’Connor after 29 minutes for a second yellow card, the Rebels regrouped, upped their intensity and never gave Mickey Harte’s side any breathing space as they got home with five points to spare.
Tyrone had their own blow to deal with before the ball was even thrown in with Seán Kavanagh failing to take the pitch due to illness.
The Red Hands missed his physicality against a big Cork side, but they failed to take advantage of the extra man as their reign came to an end in front of 53,492.
Much of Cork’s dominance came down to an eight-minute purple patch in the first half, with Daniel Goulding’s goal helping his side post 1-5 to put daylight between the sides.
The break Tyrone needed looked to have come just before the half-hour, when O’Connor received a second yellow for what looked an innocuous challenge on Owen Mulligan.
They still took a healthy five-point (1-9 to 0-7) lead into the break and broke from the traps after the break to such an effect that they looked like they had the extra man .
Tyrone kept coming but Cork’s defence was outstanding, while they were able to pick off points at regular intervals, with all six forwards getting on the scoresheet.
Colm O'Neill and substitute Fintan Goold pointed late on to put the result beyond doubt, as they held the five-point advantage when the final whistle blew.
