On the Town: Dozens of actors and well-wishers filed downstairs into Damer Hall on Dublin's St Stephen's Green to hear news about theatrical goings-on. Today, Damer Hall is the rehearsal space and offices of Ouroboros, the company formerly known as Theatreworks.

The word "ouroboros" "is a mythical image and a symbol of renewal and rebirth", said Michael Caven, at a party to announce details of the new company's upcoming production of Peter Shaffer's Amadeus. Damer Hall was a thriving centre of theatrical activity in the 1950s, recalled Caven. It boasted the world première in Irish of Brendan Behan's The Hostage.

Actor Denis Conway, who will play Salieri in the new production, recalled the Damer Hall's long list of achievements. Conway is fresh from playing General Nearchus in the Oliver Stone film, Alexander the Great.

The Ouroboros opening production will be dedicated to the memory of actor Fedelma Cullen, who died last year, said Caven, welcoming Páraic Cullen and his sister, Cathy Hartung, to the reception.
