There was one winner of yesterday´s Lotto jackpot of €18.9 million, the highest single total since the game begane 20 years ago. The winning ticket was sold in Carlow.

The six winning numbers were sold at Hickson’s Centra store on the Staplestown Road last Wednesday.

Rumour and speculation has been rife as to the identity of the winner. But co-owner of the store PJ Hickson warned the lucky punter could simply have been passing through.

“We’re on the main road to Rosslare here, so who knows?” he said.

“But anybody who has gone away today is being considered. We genuinely don’t know. There’s loads of different rumours.”

The winning ticket was a €32 euro multi-draw quick pick.

The National Lottery said the ticket holder has three months to collect their prize of €18.9 millon and urged players to check their tickets.

Around 3,500 people bought a line in the jackpot every minute during peak time on Saturday in the run up to the draw.

The prize fund had rolled over for 16 draws since May 3rd.

The winning numbers were 04, 12, 26, 27, 29, 37. The bonus ball was 38.

The prize fund of €18,963,441surpasses the €16 million won by the Cunningham family from Co Cork in July last year.

The biggest National Lottery win so far this year was on April 26th, when a jackpot of €15,658,143 was banked by a single winner. The prize was eventually claimed by a Dublin family who purchased their ticket in Rowlagh News in Clondalkin, Dublin.
