Athletics:It was a record-breaking Dublin City Marathon all round today as Moses Kibet lowered the course record in claiming the men's title. On a sun-drenched, if decidedly chilly, Dublin morning the Kenyan finished in a time of 2 hours 8 minutes and 58 seconds.

Kibet proved too strong on the day for Ethiopia’s Kedir Fikadu, while another Kenyan, Mourice Musyoki, took the bronze medal. Sergiu Ciobanu, of Clonliffe Harriers, was the first Irish runner to cross the line for a second year, finishing in a time of 2:19:33.

Kibet's time bettered Aleksey Sokolov's previous Dublin record of 2:09.07.

In the women’s race, Russia’s Tatiana Aryasova also set a new course record as she took gold in 2:26.13. Raheny Shamrock's Barbara Sanchez (2:39.39) was the first Irish women to finish.
