Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has been charged with two counts of tax evasion estimated to be in the region of €45,000, Britain's Crown Prosecution Service said today.
The CPS said it had charged Redknapp regarding two payments made during his time as manager of Portsmouth.
The payments, relating to Redknapp's employment and totalling $295,000 (€203,000), were made by the club's former chairman Milan Mandaric to Redknapp via a bank account in Monaco, evading tax and national insurance contributions between April 1st, 2002 and November 28th, 2007.
Ian Burton, Redknapp’s solicitor, said: “Harry has co-operated fully with investigators during the course of this inquiry and is confident of a successful outcome to these court proceedings.”
Redknapp was charged at the station at 3.48pm, Burton said. “The £40,000 (€45,000) figure is our estimate,” the solicitor added.
