An application by former Dublin assistant county manager Mr George Redmond for an order indefinitely postponing his trial on alleged corruption charges has been adjourned at the High Court this morning.
Mr Redmond's trial before the Circuit Criminal Court had been fixed for June 4th. However, in May, the High Court granted a temporary stay on the trial and adjourned the matter to see if an early date could be arranged for the hearing of Mr Redmond's judicial review proceedings.
Mr Redmond (78) claims that because of extensive adverse media coverage of his affairs, it is not possible for him to be tried by an impartial and unbiased jury.
This morning, counsel for Mr Redomond, Mr Patrick MacEntee SC, told Mr Justice Quirke that he had received a "considerable amount of publicity material relating to Mr Redmond from RTÉ" only yesterday and asked Mr Justice Quirke for time to look at that evidence.
Mr Justice Quirke adjourned the case until tomorrow but said that he could not guarantee the case would be heard then.
