The trial of former assistant Dublin City and County manager Mr George Redmond for alleged corruption in rezoning decisions in the 1980s has been set to start on May 19th next.
Mr Redmond faces four charges of corruption in office, relating to land rezoning in west Dublin. Two of the charges relate to the sale of land by the council in Palmerstown and two concern the compulsory purchase by it of land at Buzzardstown and Coolmine.
It is alleged that Mr Redmond received a gift of money between December 1987 and March 1988 as an inducement or reward in relation to the sale of a strip of land at Palmerstown.
He is also accused of accepting money as an inducement for showing favour to an individual in relation to the transaction.
The other charges relate to the compulsory purchase by the council of 167 acres of land at Buzzardstown and Coolmine between June 1985 and June 1986.
Mr Redmond (77) attended a hearing at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court this morning and was remanded on continuing bail. The trial is scheduled to continue for 14 days.
