The former Dublin assistant city and county manager, Mr George Redmond, was served yesterday with a book of evidence on charges of failing to make tax returns. Mr Redmond (75), of Deerpark Lawns, Castleknock, was before Dublin District Court, where he was remanded on bail to November 12th.
He faces 10 charges of failing to make returns between 1988 and 1998. Mr Patrick Geraghty, solicitor for the Director of Public Prosecutions, told the court that amendments agreed with the defence had been made to the charges. The book was handed to Mr Redmond by a detective inspector with the Criminal Assets Bureau. Mr Redmond's solicitor said he would like to know if there were going to be more charges as he would like to have them dealt with together. Mr Geraghty said the State could not say at this stage whether there would be more charges. Judge William Hamill remanded Mr Redmond on continuing bail, his own of £500 and an independent surety of £500 provided by his son.
