Mr George Redmond, the former assistant Dublin city and county manager, who faces corruption charges, was further remanded on bail yesterday to allow his lawyer examine documentation supplied by the State.
Mr Redmond (76) was before Dublin District Court on four charges. The offences allegedly occurred while he worked with Dublin County Council in the 1980s.
Two charges relate to the sale of land in Palmerstown by the council to a garage-owner, Mr Brendan Fassnidge. It is alleged that Mr Redmond corruptly received a gift of money from Mr Fassnidge as an inducement or reward in relation to the sale. He is also accused of accepting money for showing favour to an individual.
The other two charges relate to the compulsory purchase by the council of 167 acres at Buzzardstown and Coolmine between June 1985 and June 1986. Mr Redmond, it is alleged, corruptly received £10,000 as an inducement or reward for doing something, or forbearing to do anything, about the order.
Yesterday Mr Patrick Geraghty, for the Chief State Solicitor, said the case had been adjourned in May to allow the State to supply additional material to Mr Redmond's solicitor. Some of this had only been supplied yesterday and the State had no objection to a further remand. Judge David Anderson remanded Mr Redmond on continuing bail of £900 to September 4th.
