FIRE Fight is a throwback to the old days when all that mattered in a game was pure, unadulterated action and when quick reflexes and a certain amount of luck were the prerequisites to success. The difference with this game is the luscious graphics and a pulsating sound track.

Unlike Terminal Velocity or Microsoft Fury you watch the action not from within the cockpit but from above, where you have a panoramic view of the mayhem below. In 20 solo missions you pilot the Jagger aircraft which can be equipped with six different types of weapons at any one time. Apart from these, you can also pick up some other helpful aids such as the cloaking device or electromagnetic shock which will destroy everything on the screen the moment you activate it.

Some missions are simply seek and destroy, others involve a more tactical approach, but even the latter missions border on the chaotic. Controlling your Jagger couldn't be simpler and those familiar with games such as Duke, Doom or Heretic will have no problem. Even the shift key engages an impressive looking turbo mode and the alt key can be used to strafe away from enemy fire.

One nice little touch is a shield of sorts surrounding your craft. This will not protect you from enemy fire but instead indicates, at a glance, where your primary goals are and from which direction the enemy is about to attack. Without this, you wouldn't last too long as the enemy craft are heavily armed and inclined to swarm in vast numbers.

Even the novice will be able to get straight into the thick of the action in Fire Fight. If you have access to a network or a modem, you can take on other players. Fire Fight is rip roaring honest to goodness fun for those with a Pentium 90 or better!
