THE time is ripe for "thorough reform" of the electoral system, according to the Progressive Democrats TD, Ms Mairin Quill.
In a statement yesterday, she said there was "much merit" in, proposals from the Fianna Fail environment spokesman, Mr Noel Dempsey, for single seat constituencies and a reduction in the number of TDs.
Ms Quill also said the present Rainbow Coalition was top heavy: "The country gains nothing from having 17 junior ministries, the highest number ever in the history of the State."
